Pre-Event Volunteer Roles:

Event Preparation Volunteers, Various shifts June 8-12th
In the week leading up to Mental Health in motion we will need help from volunteers to create event packages, gather materials, and a host of other tasks. Each day we will be looking for 2-4 volunteers who can come to the Newmarket office for 3 hours at a time to help out. For this role we ask that all volunteers are able to carry up to 25 pounds.

Loading Mental Health in Motion Supplies June 12th
We are looking for 3-6 volunteers who can come to the Newmarket office to help load the Mental Health in Motion supplies into vehicles in preparation for Sunday’s big event. For this role we ask that all volunteers are able to carry up to 25 pounds.

Signage Volunteers June 13th
We need 2-4 volunteers to pick up route signs and maps on June 11th or 12th and to drive the 5, 20, 60 and 100 KM routes and place directional and event signs. For this role we ask that all volunteers have access to a vehicle, a clean driver’s abstract and insurance, access to a cell phone and are able to carry up to 25 pounds.

Sunday June 14th Event Day Volunteer Roles:

Registration June 14th 6am-noon
Registration volunteers will be responsible for setting up the registration area, welcoming participants, collecting forms, and distributing  shirts. Volunteers will also be responsible for organizing shirts by gender and size. After registration closes, volunteers will help clean and pack up the registration area. For this role we ask that all volunteers are able to carry 25 pounds, stand for significant periods of time and are comfortable speaking and engaging with participants.

Food Service June 14th 6am-noon
Food service volunteers will be responsible for setting up tables and chairs, and the food and beverages stations in the morning and maintaining the area by keeping the food area free of garbage. You may also be asked to assist the caterers with setting up lunch. For this role we ask that all volunteers are able to carry 25 pounds, stand for significant periods of time and to be aware that we cannot guarantee an allergy free zone.

On-site Volunteers June 14th 6am-noon
Site volunteers will assist with general event set up and maintenance, such as setting up tables and chairs, hanging signs etc. They will also be responsible for ensuring the safety of riders, runners, and walkers as they leave and return to the site. They will also greet and welcome participants, answer questions and help direct vehicle traffic inside the parking lot away from the start/finish entrance. For this role we ask that all volunteers are able to carry 25 pounds, stand for significant periods of time and are comfortable approaching strangers and giving direction.

Family Activity Area Volunteers June 14th 6am-noon
Volunteers will assist with setting up games and crafts in the family activity area, help run the activities, clean and pack up the area. For this role we ask that all volunteers are able to carry 25 pounds, stand for significant periods of time and are comfortable working with children of all ages and abilities.

60 and 100 KM Water Station Volunteers June 14th 6am-noon
Volunteers will need to come to the starting area, pick up their supplies (including water, tents, chairs, etc.), and drive to their station along the 60 or 100 km route. Once there they will need to set up the supplies and after the ride begins hand out water and other supplies to riders, provide encouragement and stay in contact with the sweep drivers. Once the ride is ended, volunteers will need to dismantle their stations and return the items to the start area. For this role we ask that all volunteers are able to carry 25 pounds, stand for significant periods of time, have access to a cell phone and preference will be given to those with access to a vehicle, particularly those with a van, SUV or truck, with a clean drivers abstract and insurance.

Cheerleaders June 14th 7am-1pm
Keep the atmosphere high and the smiles big! Aid riders (at the event site) to get into line and cheer them on as they cross the start line and when they return at the end of the ride, and during the awards ceremony. For this role we ask that all volunteers are able to stand for significant periods of time, will be enthusiastic and loud in cheering on the participants.

Photo Booth June 14th 7am-1pm
We are looking for volunteers who enjoy taking pictures/videos and talking with people. We need you to help us capture the fun and energy of Mental Health in Motion - as it happens - taking and posting photos of our participants and sponsors on Social Media. You will be responsible for setting up the photo booth area, encouraging people to get their photos taken, sharing the event hashtags and cleaning up the photo booth area. For this role we ask that all volunteers are able to stand for significant periods of time, are enthusiastic and are social media savvy.

Sweep Drivers June 14th 7am-1pm
Volunteers who are part of the sweep driver team will be responsible for assisting with the delivery of supplies and set up of water stations, driving the event routes, assisting riders, runners and walkers if injured or ill, transporting participants if necessary and helping to collect route signage. For this role volunteers are required to be able to drive a pickup truck, possess a clean drivers abstract and insurance, have access to a cell phone, and can lift and carry 25 pounds.

5 and 20 KM Water Station Volunteers June 14th 9am-3pm
Volunteers will need to come to the starting area, pick up their supplies (including water, tents, chairs, etc.), and drive to their station along the 5 or 20km route. Once there they will need to set up the supplies and after the ride begins hand out water and other supplies to riders, provide encouragement and stay in contact with the sweep drivers. Once the ride is ended, volunteers will need to dismantle their stations and return the items to the start area. For this role we ask that all volunteers are able to carry 25 pounds, stand for significant periods of time, have access to a cell phone and preference will be given to those with access to a vehicle, particularly those with a van, SUV or truck, with a clean drivers abstract and insurance.

On-site Volunteers June 14th 9am-3pm
Site volunteers will assist with general event maintenance (pick up trash, empty garbage cans etc.) and help with the tear down and packing of registration, family activities, food services, ceremony area etc. When other volunteers such as the cheerleaders are on lunch, you may be asked to step in to fill their roles. You will also be responsible for helping to consolidate water station supplies as they are returned to the site. For this role we ask that all volunteers are able to carry 25 pounds, stand for significant periods of time and are comfortable approaching strangers and giving direction and be enthusiastic in their support of the event.

Post-Event Volunteer Roles:

Signage June 15th
We need 2 volunteers to drive the 5, 20, 60 and 100 KM routes and pick up any missed directional and event signs and return them to CMHA Newmarket. For this role we ask that all volunteers have access to a vehicle, a clean driver’s abstract and insurance, access to a cell phone and are able to carry up to 25 pounds.

Unloading Mental Health in Motion Supplies June 15th
We are looking for 3-6 volunteers who can come to the Newmarket office to help unload the Mental Health in Motion supplies following Sunday’s big event. For this role we ask that all volunteers are able to carry up to 25 pounds.
